Leo Season Love
“Let love not armor but refuge. Let care be your courage”
A Leo season sunflower, supporting buzzing bees in Lieser, Germany in front of Riesling vines. Spotted on a hike, July 2025.
Leo season is in full bloom. The fixed fire sign is symbolized by the lion (“king of the jungle”) and ruled by the sun. I’m feeling the courageous and bold energy, myself, even though I have no Leo placements in my astrological chart. (Although, Tiffany, if you’re reading this, please correct me.) I’m feeling the heart-centered, bright, main character energy. I also loved what Leo season is in terms of Northern Hemisphere life. Summer is a season I’ve treasured since childhood - long, warm days, refreshing foods, cool drinks, time in the water, the smell of an incoming thunderstorm to cool things down. I grew up and lived much of my adult life in parts of the US that experience hot humid days and nights during summer.
How about you? How do you like Leo season any year? This year? Are you feeling the love tonight (to pull a line from the Lion King soundtrack)?
The quote above by astrologist Scott Tejerian during his weekly podcast struck a chord - so much so that I wrote it in my journal and later texted it to a friend that I’d had a very recent, aligned conversation with about love, openness, and leaning into leading with heart.
I’ve been feeling deeper connections in my close relationships - both parties being open, vulnerable, and humble. It feels like an energetic shift all around. Tenderness and care rather than the need to be right are leading in my life (and that feels great).
It’s like we’re realizing that with all of the shit happening in the world - the chaos, heartbreak, and violence, that isn’t the whole story. It never has been and never will be. The darkness seems like an empty void, but even a tiny speck of light shows us the truth of the void - it’s not a void at all. I can get very lost in the doom of it all - my Aquarius sun and Libra moon + the years of study around human rights abuses - and it gets hard to see. The suffering is palpable and constant, especially in a social media world layered on a 24-hour news cycle. But, when you wipe the dirty class clear, you can see that the filth was blocking out the truth of the light. The other story is that there are so many tender, loving moments happening in small and big ways all the time. I’m sure we can all think of so many examples of those we’ve experienced and witnessed. This takes me to the Buddha quote below. It really is all about love - bell hooks had it right. Not the romantic kind of love, although I do love a good romantic love story, that deeper space of love that says I see you and care for you as I see and care for myself.
“Hatred does not cease by hatred, but by love, alone.”
Love also asks us to stand up against injustice. This is the space from which Liberation 101 was born. Our inaugural spring cohort finished up the week of Juneteenth, and I’m preparing now for our “back to school cohort.” I’ve added some exciting new content for us cis/het white women to learn from and a more explicit cohort model to learn from each other and be in community.
More on that in the next blog - coming later this week. If you want to be the first to know about the Back to School cohort of Liberation 101, sign up here.
