French Polynesia (2017, 2023)

French Polynesia is technically not an independent country (owned by France), but in my book it should be.

I first went on my honeymoon ( a 6 week affair across SE Asia and Oceana). We spent nearly two weeks between Tahiti, Maupiti, Bora Bora, Huahine, and Moorea on that trip. In 2023, we went back for a week between Tahiti and Huahine. Some of my favorite snorkeling memories are spread across the islands of this gorgeous Polynesia “country.”

Favorite memories:

  • Returning to the same locally owned pearl farm in Huahine to buy loose, imperfect pearls.

  • Driving an E-Moke around Huahine.

  • Our first motorbike experience on Huahine in 2017 and renting an app based motor bike on Tahiti to explore a waterfall hike in 2023.

  • SUP over mantas in Huahine and sharks in Moorea.

  • Kayaking with our AirBnB hosts’ dogs across the lagoon in Bora Bora.

  • Walking/swimming across the lagoon to the motu in Maupiti, all while trying to avoid sea cucumbers (my least favorite sea creatures).
